The soldier killed in a bomb blast in Afghanistan this week has been named as Private Joe Cowton, who was due home on leave in a few days time.
Pte Cowton,25, from the 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, died in Helmand province when his patrol engaged with enemy forces in an attempt to push back the Taliban. He was seriously injured by an explosion and died before he could be taken out of the danger zone by helicopter despite the efforts of a medical response team on the ground.
