Cpl. Pruitt Rainey was scheduled to come home on Aug. 26, just in time to celebrate his grandmother’s birthday.
But fate had other plans for the 22-year-old U.S. Army corporal from Haw River. And though he will be coming home soon, it will not be in the way his family and friends would have wanted it.
Pruitt was among nine NATO International Security Assistance Force soldiers who were killed Sunday during a surprise attack on a small U.S. military base in northeastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border.
Rainey’s funeral will be held Wednesday, July 23, at Glen Hope Baptist. The service will begin at 2 p.m. Gordon said the community is welcome to attend.
